Our Why
At Nutritional Weight & Wellness, everything we do comes back to one simple purpose: to help people live healthier, happier lives. We exist because we’ve seen—day after day, person after person—how real food can change everything.
We believe that natural, real foods—not gimmicks, fads, or overly complicated rules—have the power to help you heal and reach your health goals. Through our classes and nutrition counseling, we teach you balanced eating rooted in science: healthy carbohydrates, proteins, and fats at every meal and snack to support blood sugar balance, energy, hormones, and long-term wellness.
Our mission is to make nutrition simple, practical, and personal. Whether you’re managing a health concern, seeking more energy, or simply wanting to feel like yourself again, we’re here to guide and support you every step of the way—because we believe everyone deserves to feel well.
Nutritional Weight & Wellness was founded in 1993 by Darlene Kvist, a pioneering nutritionist whose passion for real food nutrition was deeply personal. After watching her own family struggle with heart disease and chronic health conditions, she became determined to share what she knew could make a profound difference: that food truly is medicine.
She often said, “Something as simple as real food and lifestyle habits can change people’s lives.” For more than 30 years, Darlene dedicated her career to helping others discover this truth. She built Nutritional Weight & Wellness on the belief that when people understand the “why” behind what they eat—and receive compassionate support to put it into practice—they can heal, thrive, and experience renewed vitality.
Darlene’s impact extended far beyond the counseling room. Through her courses, her radio show, and later the Dishing Up Nutrition podcast, she educated and inspired listeners across the country and around the world. Known for her kindness and generosity, she had a remarkable ability to make every person feel heard, valued, and supported.
Her legacy of warmth, wisdom, and integrity continues to guide our work today. The passion she sparked lives on through our dedicated team of nutritionists and educators who carry forward her mission: to promote real food as the most healing, empowering, and sustainable path to wellness.
We believe in nutrition that works with your body—not against it. Our approach is grounded in science and centered on real food: balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, and beneficial carbohydrates.
For those who need additional support for healing, we occasionally recommend high-quality vitamins and supplements to complement healthy eating strategies and restore balance. But food always comes first.
Wellness isn’t about perfection or restriction—it’s about understanding how food fuels your energy, steadies your mood, reduces inflammation, and supports your body’s natural ability to heal. Every counseling session, class, and resource we offer is designed to make this simple truth accessible, realistic, and achievable for anyone.

Today, our team continues Darlene’s vision with the same compassion, curiosity, and commitment that started it all. We witness the power of real food every day—in people overcoming digestive issues, improving their moods, losing weight, balancing hormones, calming inflammation, managing chronic conditions, and simply feeling good again.
If you’re wondering, “Can nutrition help me?” the answer is yes. Truly, nutrition can provide help and hope for nearly every health concern. We’ve seen clients successfully lose weight, reduce pain, stabilize blood sugar, improve mental health, and transform their energy and wellbeing with real food.
Our goal is to continue educating and inspiring future generations to see nutrition as a lifelong tool for healing, health, and happiness.
“If we can turn the corner and make eating real food a way of life, I think we would find a decrease in chronic illness and better mental health. By working together, my dream is to promote eating real food so that everyone has good physical and mental health.”
